Here in NJ only Disabled hunters can use a Crossbow. There is talk that Crossbows will be Legal to use by all hunters within the next few years.
I personally believe they should only be allowed by disabled hunters.
What are your thoughts.
Anyone hunt in a State where Crossbows have recently been legalized?
And have the Crossbows affected the Deer heard in those States.
Plese try to keep this thread civilized as I have seen crossbow topics get very ugly!

In Illinois we can only use crossbows if we are disabled or over 62 years of age. the 62 year thing is brand new and starts this year.

By the way, welocme aboard! Please feel free to post on any other forum you may belong to or tell your friends that they are welcome also. We wish to get as many out of state hunters to join us and network together as hunters.

United we stand, divided we fall....

I feel crossbows would just turn the bow season into long gun season with alot more hunters in the woods. I vote no to crossbow

yea i vote no to crossbow also unless they want to add a season after regular bow and permit maybe a week before the early muzzleloader season that would be tolerable, definately not during regular or permit bow

from being on other forums that many of you are aware of, i do my best to stay away from this topic. but as a blanket statement, its not going to ruin my archery season if someone 200 yards away is hunting with a crossbow. for that matter, if someone is hunting with a recurve, compound, or crossbow 40 yards from me, its going to ruin my hunt. so im not convinced that crossbows would hurt at all.

I agree JRHUNT.
I wouldn't use a crossbow even if they allowed it.
I enjoy the fact that the deer has to get close when you hunting with a bow.

How far do you shoot with your bow?30,40 i shoot 30 yards with my crossbow..if he comes in at 35 yards he's safe because i know what it will do.my crossbow just shoots 305 fps just about the same as some compound bows i know people shoot alot farver then that.

I'm not a fan of the crossbow either. Like JR, I agree it should be used by the handicapped only. Now having said that, I can allow another opinion opposing my thoughts on crossbows and still remain civil. It is OK to disagree!

I hunted in Ohio years ago where it is legal and I thought it was unfair to us bow only hunters. But it's not all about me and what I want, it really is about every hunter, so lets share the game and be cool.

A person still has to do their homework to find the big boys and that separates the hunting more that the weapon, in my humble opinion Smile

In Texas it is legal to hunt with a crossbow during bow season if you are certified disabled by a physician and legal for everyone during rifle season. This to me seems a reasonable compromise to any argument concerning crossbows.

I feel that only the disabled should be able to hunt with them in any state Exclamation when you are able to hunt with a crossbow everyone and there brother will be out there with them...And then think they are cowboys and shoot at any thing that walks and that makes it bad for the rest of us Evil or Very Mad You will have more numnuts walking all over the woods because they can't sit and stay still and smell like they just put on a bottle of cologne Twisted Evil

I live in Ohio were CROSSBOWS HAVE BEEN LEGAL FOR MANY YEARS THER HAS NOT BEEN A DECREASE IN DEER WE KEEP KILLING BIG DEER AND ADDING MORE DOE TAGS . wE SHOULD BE PUTTING ALL ARE EFFERTS AGAINST THE ANTIS INSTEAD OF EACH OTHER . AS LONG AS WE AS HUNTERS ARE ETHICAL AND KNOW THE LIMITS OF ARE ABILITYS WITH WHATEVER WE HUNT WITH. Cool
